Solid carbide, rough milling cutters feature an unequal pitch and optimal geometry tuning - plus positive face angle with integrated chip breaker - stabilise cutting edge and shorten chips.
Setting a new standard for high-volume metal removal, under dry cutting conditions, said WNT, are its latest solid carbide milling cutters that maximise process security WNT's solid carbide, Ti1000 coated, MCR VHM rough milling cutters feature an unequal pitch and optimal geometry tuning

Cutters make light work of hard materials
Tool life when cutting hard materials up to 70 HRc is greatly improved, thanks to the development of a PVD-multilayer coating used on solid carbide milling cutters.
It is combined with a positive face angle with integrated chip breaker to provide cutting edge stabilisation and short chips.
Compressed air can be used to easily evacuate short chips, said WNT.
With three cutter lengths available as standard, coupled with a reduced neck, the MCR VHM series is truly universal in application.
It can be applied to a wide range of materials, including the following.
* Short and long-cutting steel.
* Chromium steels and hardened steel to 42HRC.
* Cast irons, bronze, copper and similar materials.
The application area also includes ramping, full slotting, interpolating and side cutting.
These operations are performed at elevated metal removal rates due to the geometry generating a reduction in cutting pressure between 20 and 25%, and the efficiency of the titanium-based Ti1000 coating.
For example, machining CrMo (1,2312) tool steel a metal removal rate of 305.7cm3/min running at a surface speed of 200m/min and a feed rate of 3057mm/min using a 10mm diameter cutter.
For optimum performance, WNT recommends that the tool is run dry with the application of compressed air at a pressure of 6 bar to provide swarf evacuation and cutter cooling.
This can be provided by using the Cooljet system available from WNT (UK), which uses a blast of chilled air to remove swarf and to keep component and tool at a controlled temperature.
While it is in the interest of the cutter to run it dry this process also has definite cost and environmental advantages. Request a free brochure from WNT (UK) ...
Adrian Fitts, WNT (UK) business development manager, said: "The universal nature of this series of solid carbide cutters will provide end-users with noticeable productivity improvements and cost-savings,".
