Button inserts reduce milling costs

Cutter body design of milling cutters allows he maximum number of inserts to be seated, which results in increased feed rates and reduced cycle times.

WNT (UK) said that its A2510 button insert milling range is helping to dramatically reduce milling costs and improve productivity through a combination of technology and innovative pricing The design of the cutter body allows the maximum number of inserts to be seated, which results in increased feed rates and reduced cycle times

On a 100mm cutter this equates to 10 inserts on the close pitch version, while the 40mm diameter cutter accommodates four inserts.

In addition, a novel insert indexing system ensures that inserts are indexed accurately and are then secured firmly in place.

The inserts have eight indents on the underside and these locate on the specially designed index fixed stop on the cutter body, further assistance is provided by eight numbered positions on the inserts top face, which are lined up with a visual indexing aid on the cutter body.

The result is that users are confident of utilising all eight cutting edges of the button insert and insert use and costs are reduced.

These high levels of technical innovation and high quality of products are familiar to existing users of WNT products, said the company to Manufacturingtalk, as is the company's ability to provide these products at very competitive prices.

It achieves this by applying high volume manufacturing methods in their production without compromising quality, this ensures the lowest possible piece-price for the inserts and cutter bodies.

These methods are reflected in the pricing structure of the A2510 milling systems, where insert costs are as low as GBP 0.48/edge and the cost for cutter bodies has been simplified to GBP 1.50/mm, therefore a 100mm diameter cutter will cost GBP 150.00.

"The A2510 range is further evidence of how WNT can deliver a blend of the latest technology, cutter innovation and cost-effective pricing without any compromise on either the quality of the tooling being supplied or the level of service that our customers expect from us," said Tony Pennington, managing director WNT (UK).

While a range of carbide grades and coatings make the A2510 cutters suitable for all materials the design of the cutter bodies, which includes through tool coolant as standard, make them ideal for a wide range of applications, said a report to Manufacturingtalk.

These include, profile milling, pocketing, helical plunge milling, turn milling and reverse copy milling, among others. Request a free brochure from WNT (UK) ...
