Wolfson Heat Treatment Centre's course provides a general appreciation of metallurgical and technological background to industrial heat treatment and examines the various processes.
The aim of the well-established 'Understanding Heat Treatment' course (October 14-16) at the UK's Wolfson Heat Treatment Centre, Birmingham, is to give general appreciation of the metallurgical/technological background to industrial heat treatment processing The course examines the various processes, how they are carried out and controlled, what they seek to achieve in structures and properties, and the problems that can be encountered

* Surface hardening theory and practice.
* Furnace types, materials and heating methods.
* Temperature measurement and control.
* Salt bath heat treatment.
* Controlled-atmosphere heat treatment.
* Vacuum heat treatment.
* Fluidised-bed heat treatment.
* Quality control/assurance in heat treatment.
* Computer software to assist the heat treater.
Course details - the course is non-residential; participants from outside the area requiring overnight accommodation should make their own arrangements; a list of local hotels is available on request.
Fees include course notes, lunches and refreshments.
As usual, preferential rates apply for participants from companies who subscribe to the Wolfson Heat Treatment Centre's advisory and information service.

* Subscribers GBP 620.
Registration - early application is advised since the number of participants will be limited in order to promote an informal atmosphere and encourage questions and discussion.
Applications will be treated on a 'first come, first served' basis and successful applicants will be invoiced for the appropriate course fee on acceptance.
Joining instructions for participants will be sent with the acknowledgement to successful applicants.
