The upgraded performance is especially obvious when sparking deep ribs, grooves or other areas where flushing is difficult, as a VDI 20 finish can now be achieved to a depth of 130mm.
This level of performance is partly the result of improved, high-speed pulse technology which eliminates the need for side flushing of ribs and the deformations this can cause in the eroded cavity.
Another factor promoting speed and accuracy is the expert erosion system within the generator, which automatically controls the entire machining of a workpiece from roughing to finishing.

These EDM machines are believed to be the first on the market to cut taper angles, in submerged mode, up to +/-30 degrees over the full X and Y axes.

Investment in two wire EDM machines allows a mould and die maker to profile complicated shapes quickly and accurately in virtually any material over long periods unmanned.
Optimum generator performance is assured at each stage, even during 24-hour unattended operation.
Contributing also to efficient cavity machining is increased Z-axis speed, resulting in faster infeed and retraction and hence shorter cycle times.
Even the CNC system has enhanced functionality specifically for automatically programming grooves.
For all operations, the generator maximises metal removal rates while at the same time prolonging electrode life and giving enhanced surface finish, up to VDI 0 in fine finish mode, with better homogeneity on large surface areas owing to new technology tables within the control.
There are seven models in the CS-HS machine program with X,Y,Z and optional 360 degree rotary C axis.
All feature a robust, fixed bed frame allowing extensive X and Y travels as well as a high load capacity on the table.
Linear axis travels range from 400 x 300 x 300mm up to 3000 x 1500 x 1000mm for the largest machine, which can support components weighing up to 10 tonnes.
The two smaller models, CS300 and CS400, have a rise-and-fall tank while the HS300 and HS400, and the larger HS600, HS700 and HS1000 are of fixed-tank design.
Maximum electrode weight is 400kg.
Automated exchange of electrodes weighing between 40 and 70kg, according to machine model, may be performed either by a linear changer with up to 30 stations or by a rotary type offering 16 positions.
Alternatively, a robotic system is available for flexible handling of both electrodes and workpieces.
ONA won a European ecological award last year for the electromagnetic filtration system fitted to its die-sinking EDM machines, which removes all particles above one micron.
The process is fully automated and guarantees over 10,000 hours of operation before the paper filters need to be replaced.
