An engineering service is available around the clock for customers who require calibration of any instruments or gauges and need work carried out by qualified engineers either on or off site Backed Thanks to the provision of stand-by teams of engineers, Wyko's Calibration Service has enabled the C.S.O Alliance to set sail well within a 24hr deadline

The service is available around the clock for customers who require calibration of any instruments or gauges and need work carried out by qualified engineers either on or off site.

Backed by Wyko's extensive range of MRO products, the calibration service can offer specialist work, at short notice, anywhere in the UK.

It is often the case in the shipping industry that a 2-3 week notice period is required by service providers, this usually incurs long layover periods.

However, the Chesterfield branch of Wyko Calibration Services (WCS) received a call from Ian Somerville, chief engineer on the C.S.O.

Alliance on the evening of 2nd September of this year with a request for emergency calibration work to be carried out on a number of pressure gauges, in order for his ship to sail the following morning.

By 3pm the next day, experienced WCS engineers arrived in Newcastle with a full range of necessary fittings and specialist calibration equipment.

The team came ready to tackle a wide range of different types of instruments and gauges, to be calibrated in Psi, Bar and meters of seawater.

Preparations had to cover relatively new instruments and gauges as well as models that may be over fifty years old.

The team of engineers also had to account for the conditions on the ship itself.

As with most ships, the instruments inside the C.S.O Alliance were often found in cramped, poorly lit locations, making access to them and their identification difficult.

Nevertheless, the team worked until four the next morning calibrating all the instruments, labelling them and leaving all systems ready for use, well before the deadline.

Andy Morris, head of laboratory at the Chesterfield branch of WCS explains: 'we have been able to provide a specialist service to the defence, electronics, power and pharmaceutical industries for many years.

However, customers have now realised that such a quick response time for emergencies combined with instant access to such a broad range of products and equipment has made our service perfectly suited for the demands of the shipping industry'.

Wyko are one of the largest suppliers of maintenance and repair products and services in the UK, ensuring that the WCS teams are capable of dealing with any eventuality quickly and without the need for subcontracting.

The service benefits from having instant access to the whole Wyko range and boasts one of the most highly qualified teams of engineers in the industry.

Other marine services available from Wyko include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Services, Condition Monitoring and Generator Services.

The complete range of Marine Services are available to ships in any UK port, which are accessed from Wyko's network of 120 distribution branches and repair workshops nationwide.

A full range of maintenance and replacement products can also be efficiently delivered to any port worldwide. Request a free brochure from Eriks UK ...
