Fenner gearboxes and gearmotors have recently been awarded certification by Baseefa for use in ATEX Zones 1 and 2 (gas) and Zones 21 and 22 (Dust) atmospheres.
By positioning the induction coil outside the heater's housing, the units allow bearings to be placed closer to the element, reducing the time taken to prepare even large bearings by 80%.
For example, the TIH 210m can heat a 210kg bearing from room temperature to 110degC in 20 minutes, saving over an hour and a half of maintenance time.
The design also reduces energy consumption and costs by 70%, allowing the units to run on a relatively low power input of 10 KVA.
By using induction heaters, plant engineers can fit a broad range of bearings onto shafts with the minimum of effort, whilst extending bearing life and minimising damage to the rest of the system.
The heaters also avoid the problems of grease removal and metal weakening through overheating, which can be caused by hotplates, blowtorches and ovens.
Induction heating also ensures even heating of the bearing, minimising the risk of misalignment, the number one cause of bearing failure.
The units also demagnetise the bearings after heating to prevent steel dust being attracted to the raceway during assembly and causing reduced operating life.
Available in three models; the TIH 210m, 090m and 070m units have bearing heating capacities of 210, 120 and 80kg respectively and are now available off the shelf from WYKO.
The heaters benefit from thermal overheating protection of the induction coil and electronics as well as offering time and temperature modes for heating components other than bearings.
All the induction heaters are compatible with power supplies ranging from 400V/50Hz to 460V/60Hz and can automatically adjust their operating voltage accordingly.
