Some of the world's largest print providers have joined the newly formed steering group for the UK's first Centre for Industrial Collaboration (CIC) in Digital Printing at the University of Leeds.

Leading independent printing company Polestar, print security specialists Scientific Games and world leading digital inkjet supplier Xaar, have all given their backing to the unique initiative by joining the steering group, which will ensure that the CIC's research and development expertise continues to focus on meeting the needs of the print and print packaging industry Prof

Long Lin who heads up the Digital CIC and will chair the group comments: "We're delighted to have such high profile print providers and suppliers join our steering group".

"Their combined specialist knowledge and experience will give the steering group an added dimension and we feel confident that we will provide better development solutions for the industry with their support." Polestar's Darrin Stevens said he was delighted to be joining Digital CIC's steering group and added: "Providing innovative customer solutions is one of the hallmarks of our business, so I'm delighted to be joining like-minded people to share knowledge and experience to the benefit of the industry." David Boddy of Scientific Games said he hoped the work of the CIC would drive further investment into the Yorkshire and Humber region, which was already a centre of excellence for print.

He said: "We're really looking forward to working more closely with the University of Leeds' digital print specialists to drive forward what are some very exciting new developments".

"I hope to bring market pragmatism to the mix, ensuring ideas are developed to meet practical market needs." Xaar's Bryan Palphreyman said it was important that a major supplier perspective was being brought to the CIC.

On joining the steering team he comments: "The University of Leeds is universally recognised as a leading centre of research in colour management, so combining that expertise with the input of world-beating print providers and suppliers can only bring positive results for business." Operating out of the University's world renowned Department of Colour and Polymer Chemistry, the Digital Print CIC is responsible for a wide variety of research and development projects, from anti-counterfeit print solutions to food packaging innovations.

With world class resources such as micro level analysis of print and ink and substrate assessment, the Centre aims to develop the most efficient and cost effective print solutions, which can save both time and money.
