Three well-attended 'open houses at its showrooms iset the seal on what was described as the XYZ Machine Tools's 'best-ever' annual sales performance in its 21st anniversary year.

Three well-attended UK 'open houses' at its showrooms in Nuneaton, Blackburn and London set the seal on what Nigel Atherton, managing director of XYZ Machine Tools, describes as the Devon-based company's best-ever annual sales performance and the perfect way to conclude XYZ's 21st anniversary year It also provided an ideal forum for announcing a free three-year peace-of-mind warranty on all orders for XYZ Mini Mills, XYZ vertical machining centres and XYZ turning centres placed by 31st March 2006

"The response during 2005 has been phenomenal," says Atherton, "And confirms our position as the largest volume supplier of CNC machine tools to the UK market.

More than 120 end-user companies attended our 'open houses' and XYZ has received confirmed orders valued at more than GBP 1 million as a direct result of staging these events.

And initiatives such as the extended warranty reflect both our confidence in our products and our determination to maintain this momentum." Visitors to all three events were treated to a comprehensive display of machine tools designed to increase productivity, reduce costs, combat skills shortages and provide a competitive edge.

The extended product range includes the XYZ Mini Mill 450 - a smaller version of the best-selling Mini Mill 560 compact vertical machining centre; the e (for economy) trio of manual lathe, mill and surface grinder; XL (extra large) CNC lathes with up to 1500 mm swing and up to 10 metres between centres; and six models of large capacity bridge mill.

In fact, the new 3000ft2 London showroom situated on the Waltham Point development just off J26 of the M25 featured 15 machines, highlighting the extent of XYZ's portfolio and introducing new additions such as the 54mm bore XYZ ProTURN SLX 1630 manual/CNC lathe.

This GBP 17,800 straight bed, 7.5HP variable speed lathe, which has a swing over bed of 400mm and a between-centres distance of 760mm, is equipped with the latest version of the easy-to-use ProtoTRAK control.

The new ProtoTRAK SLX control offers entry-level technology at a very affordable price and enables even an operator with no CNC experience to program with confidence within a day.

Its unique 'traking' feature allows the operator to physically wind through the tool path, ensuring collision-free operation and the speedy production of one-offs and small batches.

From low-cost manual mills, lathes and grinding machines to top-of-the-range CNC machines with a choice of control system, the three XYZ 'open houses' demonstrated machine tools to suit every budget.

And, as confirmed by Atherton, every XYZ product, from the entry-level ProtoTRAK Edge manual/CNC turret mill to large capacity machining centre, lathe or bridge mill, is backed by expert applications advice and an after-sales service that is second to none.
