Qualified tool maker appointed sales

XYZ Machine Tools has appointed a qualified tool maker, Gregg Williams, as area sales manager for the south east of England, including Essex, Kent, Sussex and part of Surrey.
Gregg Williams is XYZ Machine Tools' new area sales manager for the south east of England, responsible for a sales area that encompasses Essex, Kent, Sussex and part of Surrey A qualified toolmaker, Williams' sales career began shortly after completing his apprenticeship when he joined a distributor of engineering products that just happened to have a separate machine tools division

He described his initial sales training as short and to the point: "There is the car, there is a box of brochures, now go out and sell the machines," Since those early days Williams has been involved with most aspects of metal cutting as well as metal forming and fabrication.
Before joining XYZ he was involved with CNC sliding head machines but said he found selling a niche product too constraining.
"Niche is not something that describes the XYZ range and while it will take time to get to know the various machines, it does mean that wherever I go in my sales area there is an opportunity to sell, say, a machining centre, a turning centre, or even a large CNC bridge mill or CNC lathe," he said.
"However, the priority is to find out what it is the customer wants to achieve and not simply to sell him any machine that happens to be available." Helping Williams to promote XYZ products in the south east is the new 3000ft2 London showroom just off J26 of the M25.
Currently home to 15 machine tools - manual, manual/CNC and full CNC - this brings training and machine demonstrations within easy reach of customers who previously had to choose between showrooms in Nuneaton and Burlescombe.
