Software converts CAD into machining
programs

DXF file converter, which can be fitted to any XYZ milling machine or lathe equipped with a VM, SM, SMX, VL, or SLX ProtoTRAK CNC, will quickly turn DXF CAD files into ProtoTRAK programs.

DXF file converter turns CAD into machining programs DXF file converter, which can be fitted to any XYZ milling machine or lathe equipped with a VM, SM, SMX, VL, or SLX ProtoTRAK CNC, will quickly turn DXF CAD files into ProtoTRAK programs XYZ Machine Tools' new Drawing Exchange Format (DXF) file converter, which can be fitted to any XYZ mill or lathe equipped with a VM, SM, SMX, VL, or SLX ProtoTRAK CNC, will quickly turn DXF CAD files into functional ProtoTRAK programs

The new DXF converter uses the same 'user-friendly' format as the ProtoTRAK programming system and once a file has been imported, toolpaths are generated simply by selecting the 'program event' type (for example, a drilled hole) from a list and clicking on the area of the imported geometry relating to that event.

This will load the dimensions from the drawing into the event type selected.

Remaining information required, such as hole depth, feed rate and tool data, etc, is prompted automatically, as with the conventional ProtoTRAK programming method.

The DXF Converter also features a number of powerful tools to deal with items such as gaps present in the imported geometry, selecting specific layers the user wants to machine from the imported geometry, and 'chaining' selected events to create complex profiles made up of many connected lines and arcs.

There are also tools for editing the imported geometry so that more practical toolpaths can be generated.

For example, in order to complete a turn event without the toolpath attempting to incorporate a drawn circlip groove into its calculations, the groove can be blanked out and assigned to another event.

XYZ's DXF converter can also be used to generate a DXF CAD file from a programmed part.

This can then be printed and used like any other 2D drawing.
