Gearbox overhaul frm invests in VMC
Specialising in the overhaul of industrial gearboxes and repairs on gearbox castings, a UK form has ordered a vertical machining centre for production-orientated work.

The labyrinth seal design of its BT40 spindle prevents the ingress of coolant and fine particles.
Working envelope is 1010mm (X) by 509mm (Y) by 509mm (Z).
The Siemens 810D conversational ShopMill control fitted as standard requires the minimum of operator keystrokes to translate a drawing into a fully machined component, with canned cycles catering for common machining requirements such as contour pocketing with islands.
The breadth and scope of machining work undertaken by RMB, which employs 70 people, is evident from the variety of machine tools installed in its main 50,000ft2 facility in the West Midlands.
XYZ Machine Tools, for example, had earlier supplied a 5.75kW/7.5HP SMX 5000 manual/CNC bed mill and an 11kW/15HP ProTURN SLX 555 manual/CNC lathe.
Both machines are equipped with ProtoTRAK controls for those 'one-off' and small batch applications typical of any maintenance workshop.

RMB has come a long way since Ray Brady set up shop in a garage in 1981.
Its biggest single order to date has been a GBP 440,000 contract for the repair and refurbishment of wind turbine gearboxes.
The firm now offers a complete breakdown machining, fabrication and engineering service, 24h/day, seven days/week, from UK sites in Dundee, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich.
Fabrication, using coded welders, of steel, stainless steel, copper or aluminium structures up to 6 tons in weight is backed by a comprehensive machining capacity.
