Manual/CNC machine tools are simple to use

A XYZ Machine Tools product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jan 22, 2008

The ProtoTRAK control fitted to manual/CNC milling machines and lathes retains the inherent simplicity of operation of manual machines while providing CNC capability at DRO prices.

XYZ Machine Tools will be displaying 17 machine tools and will include the folowing.

* New XYZ Compact Turn 52 turning centre.

* XYZ TC 250 turning centre with live tooling.

* XYZ Mini Mill 560 compact vertical machining centre.

* Three models of VMC, including the XYZ 1060 HS (high speed) model with the option of a 24,000 rev/min spindle (12,000 rev/min as standard).

* The new XYZ ProtoTRAK EMX eMill manual/CNC turret milling machine.

* Two models of XYZ ProtoTRAK SMX manual/CNC bed mill.

* Four models of XYZ ProTURN ELX and SLX manual/CNC lathe, with three versions of the largest model, the ProTURN SLX 555, featuring between centres distances up to 3m.

ProtoTRAK control - XYZ's best-selling ProtoTRAK control, fitted to XYZ's manual/CNC milling machines and lathes, retains the inherent simplicity of operation of manual machines while providing CNC capability at DRO prices.

Similarly, full CNC machines are supplied as standard with the equally user-friendly Siemens ShopMill and ShopTurn conversational controls.

* XYZ Compact Turn 52 turning centre - the most recent addition is the XYZ Compact Turn 52 turning centre.

XYZ told manufacturingtalk.com that the turning centre typifies the company's emphasis on 'the smarter choice for prototype and low volume production'.

Equipped with the Siemens 810D ShopTurn control and designed to occupy the minimum of valuable floorspace (1700mm (W) x 1300mm (D)), this turning centre lcombines a 20HP (15kW)/5000 rev/min spindle with a 155mm chuck/52mm bar capacity spindle and a maximum turned length of 280mm as well as a 12-station VDI tool turret.

XYZ said the XYZ Compact Turn 52 is ideally suited to the requirements of the smaller sub-contractor and is attracting considerable attention from a customer base that extends from SMEs to large OEMs and their tier supply chain.

* XYZ ProtoTRAK EMX eMill at GBP 10,000 - living up to its reputation for introducing competitively priced, easy to use and productive machine tools, XYZ will also be displaying a new, cost-effective first step into CNC prismatic machining.

Prices begin at GBP 10,000 for the XYZ ProtoTRAK EMX eMill, a flexible and easy to use turret mill that can be operated in either manual/DRO or CNC mode.

The 3HP/4200 rev/min EMX eMill has X- and Y-axis travels of 750mm and 380mm respectively and a 1270mm x 254mm table.

It is the smallest of three new ProtoTRAK turret mills equipped as standard with the new EMX control.

All three models feature a variable speed head, Meehanite cast iron ribbed construction, and are built and guarded to comply fully with all CE regulations.

* Large CNC lathes - XYZ Machine Tools offers five models of Extra Large (XL) and oil country CNC lathes, the largest model having a 2.2m swing and 12m between centres.

However, irrespective of whether a customer opts for a compact VMC or a large oil country lathe, the company's stand at MACH 2008 - at 280m2 - is one of the largest in the exhibition.

It will highlight XYZ's commitment to providing first-class products backed by excellent customer service, from initial enquiry through to expert application-specific advice and comprehensive after-sales support.

* XYZ Machine Tools at MACH 2008, NEC, Birmingham, UK, April 21-25, Hall 5, Stand 5358.
