XYZ 5-axis VMC pays dividends for SME

A XYZ Machine Tools product story

Faringdon Precision Engineering has invested in a mid-range XYZ 710 VMC, fitted as standard with the Siemens Shopmill control.

The 20HP/12000rev/min/24-tool capacity vertical machining centre has a 760 x 430mm table with a 500kg maximum loading.

Faringdon Precision also has an XYZ 1010 VMC with a 1200 x 450mm table that is equipped with an NC indexer providing five-axis capability; two smaller XYZ 560 Mini Mill compact vertical machining centres; and three XYZ turning centres, the largest of which can machine components up to 250mm diameter.

XYZ also supplied the 2HP horizontal bandsaw that cuts bar stock into billet lengths as required.

Gary Evans, director of Faringdon Precision, said: 'Five-axis capability is essential when it comes to machining complex forms for motorsport or aerospace components.

'The intention is for the component to stay on the machine until it is finish-machined, with experience dictating the way in which it is programmed and how it is held.

'Our investment in CADCAM software allows us to do our own modelling and to design and make all our fixturing.

In addition to the motorsport and aerospace industries, Faringdon Precision's remit extends to defence, oil and gas, railway, medical and semiconductor work in a range of materials.
