VMC mini mill does more than drill and tap
While many machines on the market described as 'mini mills' are just mill/tap centres, a subcontractor says that its 'mini-mill' is a powerful three axis vertical machining centre.
Compact VMC offered at affordable UK price
A 'mini-mill' vertical machining centre offers small footprint (1850 x 1850mm), large capacity (610 x 305 x 460mm) and affordable price in the UK (at just GBP 24,950).
With prices of GBP 28,200 and GBP 34,900 respectively, these brand new machines combine an exceptionally high performance specification with genuine value for money.
Manufactured to Yamazen's own specific requirements, these VMCs mark the return of the Matchmaker name which was well known in the 70s and 80s for affordable, high performance and reliable CNC machine tools (like the Matchmaker FMA3 multi-pallet machining centre).
These latest models extend that tradition with such features as: hardened and ground slideways, rigid cast construction, an oil-cooled 8000 rev/min spindle, hand wheel jog, fully functioned Fanuc OMD control and a screw-type swarf conveyor (with coolant wash).

Compact 'mini mill' VMC offers larger X-axis
While still saving space, 'mini-mill' CNC milling machines are getting bigger - as shown by the introduction of a compact vertical machining centre equipped with an X-axis travel of 610mm.
Both machines will be demonstrated at the Open House cutting steel and aluminium to highlight their all-round capability.
The VMC-820 has axis travels of 820 (X) by 510 (Y) by 500mm (Z) while the VMC-1100 has a working envelope of 1100 (X) by 550 (Y) by 600mm (Z).
Each model is available with a five year warranty.
With the introduction of such 'economy end' VMCs, Yamazen now offers a complete portfolio of CNC machine tools covering top-level models from Mitsubishi, Tsugami and Kiwa; mid-range machines from Fadal and Samsung and the low cost Matchmaker series.
Examples from all these ranges of machines will be on show during the Open House (10 am to 5 pm each day).
Plus, there will also be independent exhibits from the likes of Rohm, Renishaw, Licom Systems, FSE, Stellram, K and B, Weston and OSG.
And visitors ordering products from any these companies during the show will also qualify for a discount.
Here's a brief rundown of the technology on show at Yamazen's Open House.
Mitsubishi machines on display will include: M-V5C (with 20,000 rev/min spindle), M-V5CL (a long bed version), M-H5B (available with 20,000 rev/min spindle and up to 120 tools) and the V60E-FM (with Fine Mould software).
While the Tsugami FMA3 machining centre (with 10 pallets and 126 tools) and the Kiwa KNH-426 multi-pallet machining centre will also be demonstrated.
Three Fadal VMCs will be on view - 4525, 4020 (with twin-pallets) and the economy EMC model.
While the Samsung range of machines will be represented by the LCV30A high speed drilling and tapping centre and the PL25A slant-bed CNC lathe.
