Optimise machining in a mill-turning centre
Having recently introduced one of the world's most innovative ranges of new generation machine tools Yamazaki Mazak will be featuring two of its 'e' models at the MACH 2002 exhibition.
As with all Integrex 'e' model machines, the Mazak Integrex 'e' 800V/5 uniquely combines advanced levels of information technology with manufacturing technology.
The 'e' 800V/5 is a true multi function 5-axis machine based on a vertical turning spindle with C axis capability.
The upper spindle tool holder operates in 4 axes - X/Y/Z and B - with the rotary tool spindle having turning and milling capability.
Maximum work piece dimensions for the 'e' 800V/5 (on a 500 x 500mm pallet) are 730mm x 1000mm with a maximum machining diameter of 730mm.
The Super Velocity Centre (SVC) 2000L travelling column, longer vertical machining centre is now equipped with linear drives.
Recognising that production machining centres benefit from the speed and maintained accuracy achievable by linear drive motors, Mazak's new SVC 2000L will complement the existing (shorter) VTC machines but take advantage of linear drive technology for its 3 metre capacity.
Since its introduction, the Mazak Nexus range of entry level, 2 axis turning centres and vertical machining centres has proved very popular, offering users all of the acclaimed features of Mazak quality and technology at highly affordable prices.
Now the turning centre range has been expanded with the introduction of machines with driven tools - the Quick Turn Nexus 350M and the Quick Turn Nexus 250MS - both of which will be featured at MACH 2004.
The new Quick Turn Nexus 350M has three axes and a milling function while the smaller Quick Turn Nexus 250MS will be demonstrated making use of its second spindle to achieve done-in-one machining.
The rotary tools can be mounted on all positions of the 12 drum turret for highly efficient machining while the quick change format of tool holder can be loaded or unloaded by a single turn of a wrench for minimised set-up times.
The machines feature a small footprint combined with a large machining envelope.
Standard chuck sizes are 315mm on the Nexus 350M and 250mm on the 250MS.
On show for the first time in the UK will be the Horizontal Centre Nexus 6000, a high performance, general purpose machining centre offering high speed spindle output and positioning with an automatic tool changer that can hold up to 43 tools.
The pallet size of the Nexus HC 6000 is 500 x 500mm with an 800mm travel and an impressive 60m per minute rapid traverse.
Again, the machine is very competitively priced.
One vertical centre Nexus machine will be featured, the VC Nexus 410A.
This machining centre offers a rapid traverse rate of 36,000 mm/min, offers a 30-tool storage capacity and has a maximum spindle speed of 12,000 rev/min.
Completing the range of Nexus machines being featured is a two axis Quick Turn Nexus 100 equipped with a magazine bar feeder to demonstrate its capabilities in a production environment.
As with all Nexus machines the overall 'package' offers versatility, speed, precision and a small footprint within a highly competitive pricing structure.
From the established Mazak Integrex range will be the recently introduced lntegrex 400-III ST.
lntegrex III series machines are the latest developments to the world's most advanced range of powerful multi-tasking machine tools, offering flexibility and the turning and milling performance of a machining centre in a single machine set up.
Maximum machining diameter on the upper/lower turret in the lntegrex 400-III ST is 760 x 420mm.
Features include simultaneous 5 axis capability but now with more power to the milling spindle with the higher speeds permitting efficient machining in both steels and aluminium alloys.
On the III series machines there is the option of a lower turning turret which allows simultaneous turning from top and bottom tooling, producing significantly shorter machining cycles.
This allows internal and external turning or four axis turning using both tool holders.
Alternatively, both the tool stations can operate simultaneously on the main and second spindles.
The Integrex 400-III ST at MACH will feature the lower turret and second spindle.
The addition of the lower 9 station turret expands the turning operation capabilities on chuck, bar and shaft workpieces.
For extended machining operations in unmanned environments multi-bar feeding equipment can be fitted as can automated gantry loading.
Finally, new on the stand will be the Mazak Variaxis 730-5X with 5-axis simultaneous capability enabling the most complex work pieces to be completed in a single set-up.
Integral to achieving this is the machine tool's high rigidity, tilting/rotary table.
The Variaxis 730-5X has a pallet size of 630 x 530mm, an ISO 50 taper spindle and 40m/min traverse rate on all lower axes.
All machine tools on the stand will be fully operational with demonstrations designed to highlight their capabilities.
In addition to the machine tools there will also be demonstrations of Mazak' s advanced Cyber Production Centre manufacturing software systems and a demonstration featuring the new SOLID modelling capability within the Mazak CAMWARE.
There will also be a demonstration of Mazak's on-line remote servicing and diagnostic capability. Request a free brochure from Yamazaki Mazak UK ...
