Mill/turn centres are large part
multi-tasking
Multi-tasking mill/turn centres can turn large diameter workpieces complemented by a powerful machining (milling) spindle that enables five-axis machining in one set-up.
Yamazaki Mazak's Integrex e-Tower range of multi-tasking machines has set a new standard for productivity, with their capacity to turn large diameter workpieces complemented by a powerful machining (milling) spindle that enables five-axis machining of multiple faces to be completed in a single set-up However, it is the addition of the unique e-Tower that is the key to unprecedented levels of operating efficiency

'Entry level' turning centres have driven tooling
Two 'entry level' turning centres introduced at MACH 2004 feature three-axis turning, one-hit machining and combine a small footprint with a large machining envelope.
Connected directly to the Mazatrol Matrix conversational control, the e-Tower's integrated functions include programming, ordering of material and tooling, maintenance information and scheduling, production control and the generation of production status reports.
By combining IT (information technology) and MT (manufacturing technology), the Integrex e-Tower machines guarantee optimum performance, whether independently or when integrated into an advanced 'Cyber Factory'.
The latest addition to this range is the Integrex e-1550V10 II, a VTL-style machine designed for turning and milling of large diameter workpieces up to 2000mm diameter and 1440mm high.

Multi-function centre integrates IT and MT
Multi-function mill-turning centre integrating IT and manufacturing technology to enable the organisation of turning, milling and drilling operations in a single set-up.
These components are located on the machine's 1 m square table or circular clamping table of 1400mm diameter.
By virtue of a tilting spindle with 150 degrees of movement and a 37kW, 10 000 rev/min rating, along with a 300 rev/min, 37kW rotary table, the Integrex e-1550V10 II can machine multiple workpiece faces, thereby completing all machining operations in a single setup.
In addition, it is capable of simultaneous five-axis machining, thanks to the innovative Mazatrol Matrix CNC.
This continues Mazak's tradition of combining easy-to-use conversational programming with market-leading performance.
As with all 'e' designated machines, the e-1550V10 is equipped with the innovative e-Tower that provides operators and management with a comprehensive scheduling capability and a wide variety of information relating to machine status and performance.
The Integrex e-1550V10 II sits at the upper end of the e-Tower range with only the Integrex e-1850 having a larger machining capacity of 2350mm diameter by 1800mm high.
With this larger capacity in mind the turning spindle benefits from an increase in power to 45kW and the top speed is reduced to 250 rev/min.
At the other end of the range is the Integrex e-410HS II, which features a 22kW, 12 000 rev/min milling spindle that can be positioned over a total range of 240 degrees and 30 degrees over the centreline of the main and second spindles.
Although described as a second spindle, this unit is equal in power to the main spindle with 26kW and 4000 rev/min.
With a machining envelope of 610mm diameter by 1522mm length the Integrex e-410H II is a comprehensive multi-function machine tool.
As the machines in the range increase in size so, too, does the power available, with the Integrex e-500 II benefiting from 30kW, 3500 rev/min turning spindles and a 37kW, 10 000 rev/min milling spindle.
Similarly, the Integrex e-600 II has 45kW, 1600 rev/min and 37kW, 10 000 rev/min available at the turning and milling spindles respectively.
Completing the Integrex e-Tower range are the e-1060V8 II and e-1850V12 II vertically configured machines.
These machines share similar attributes to the e-1550V10 II, with multi-face, multi-axis capability provided by a rotary turning spindle in combination with a B-axis spindle with 150 degrees of movement.
Based around a column-type construction, these machines provide a highly rigid platform for the turning and milling of large diameter workpieces in a single operation.
Yamazaki Mazak has been at the forefront of developing machines to meet the demand for multi-function machine tools, and the Integrex e-Tower range epitomises the advantages that are available to companies who choose to invest in this area of manufacturing.
The extent of the Integrex e-Tower range means that there is a machine ideally suited to any multi-function and 'Done in One' machining requirement. Request a free brochure from Yamazaki Mazak UK ...
