Latest multi-axis CNC manages high speed
A '6th generation' CNC is capable of controlling up to nine axes, five of them simultaneously and ensures precise control of high speed, high accuracy machining and better surface finish.
Always something new is the phrase that neatly sums up the global launch of Yamazaki Mazak's Mazatrol MATRIX, a 6th generation CNC capable of controlling up to nine axes, five of them simultaneously High speed, high accuracy machining is ensured by the sub-micron (0.0001 mm/0.00001 inch) minimum program increment for both Mazatrol and EIA/ISO programming

Latest CNC controls up to nine axes
A '6th generation' CNC is capable of controlling up to nine axes, five of them simultaneously, with high accuracy machining ensured by a sub-micron (0.0001mm/0.00001 inch) minimum program increment.
The new system's high-speed calculation capability delivers high speed, high accuracy machining, even with sub-micron program commands.
New design pulse encoders on each linear axis contribute to a high quality surface finish by generating 16 million pulses per revolution - 16 times faster than the previous system.
And surface finish is further enhanced by Quadrant Spike Compensation, which minimises axis 'slip-stick' during machining operations such as circular interpolating.

'Entry level' turning centres have driven tooling
Two 'entry level' turning centres introduced at MACH 2004 feature three-axis turning, one-hit machining and combine a small footprint with a large machining envelope.
To deliver this high level performance the Mazatrol MATRIX incorporates a 64-bit 'twin-engine' processor to cope with the huge amounts of data generated during high-speed, high accuracy machining.
The maximum vectoral feedrate available for machining complex surfaces is, in fact, four times faster than the standard specification of the previous CNC system.
Machine programs can be written and then checked off-line for machine interference using the MATRIX-CAM system, which allows programs to be downloaded easily to the Mazatrol MATRIX control over a network for convenient program management and high efficiency operation.
Among the key features of the new control are numerous Mazatrol cycles that have been added or improved.
Among these is the Mazatrol Mill-Turn cycle, which is extremely effective when rough machining difficult to machine materials such as aerospace alloys.
Both the milling tool and workpiece rotate for this operation, providing improved chip control.
And as multiple inserts are used for cutting instead of a single insert, as is the case for normal turning, the effective cutting force is reduced and this allows a higher federate to be used.
This approach also extends the cutting life of the inserts, which allows unmanned operation to proceed over extended periods of time.
Also contributing to the efficiency of unmanned operation is the Machined Chip-Breaking Cycle, where by inserting a 'cut length cycle' for each turning pass, the axis feed stops momentarily at the end of each designated cut length to break the chip before machining is resumed.
Mazak introduced its first conversational machine tool control, the Mazatrol T1, in 1981.
At EMO 2005, visitors saw the latest CNC technology in action, with the Mazatrol MATRIX control fitted to all the Mazak Multi-tasking machines on the company's stand. Request a free brochure from Yamazaki Mazak UK ...
