Rigid mill/turn centre cuts ferrous,
non-ferrous
Mill/turn centre combines heavy-duty capability with the agility associated with smaller machines to perform fine machining of light alloy components and heavy-duty machining of ferrous materials.
Yamazaki Mazak's series of Quick Turn Nexus turning centres continues to expand, the latest addition being the QTN-350MY This is currently the largest machine in the Quick Turn Nexus range, combining heavy-duty capability with the agility associated with smaller machines

Yamazaki to stage 'EMO Encore' for UK buyers
UK buyers and specifiers of machine tools who were unable to attend the EMO exhibition can view and assess new Mazak machine tools at Yamazaki Machinery, Worcester, January 29-February 1.
The rigidity of the 8500 kg machine (350MY) is central to its ability to combine the fine machining of light alloy components and the high metal removal, heavy-duty machining associated with ferrous materials.
This, combined with an integral spindle motor rated up to 30 kW with 724 N/m of torque, the versatility provided by 12 rotary tool positions and a C-axis capable of indexing to 0.001 degree, makes the machines adaptable to most applications.
Combining these elements enables users to mill contours, flats and drill and tap end faces in a single set-up.

Optimise machining in a mill-turning centre
Having recently introduced one of the world's most innovative ranges of new generation machine tools Yamazaki Mazak will be featuring two of its 'e' models at the MACH 2002 exhibition.
Adding to this versatility is a between centre distance of 1530 mm, a 420 mm maximum turning diameter, with maximum bar diameter capacity of 102 mm, carried in its A2-11 inch spindle, which is complemented by rotary tools driven by a 7.5 kW motor.
The power of this motor facilitates the use of drills up to 23 mm diameter, end mills up to 25 mm diameter and taps to a maximum size of M24x3.
As standard the QTN-350MY features a NC electric tailstock with positioning and thrust forces controlled by the NC program via operator set M-code parameters.
This helps to ensure components are consistently supported, further contributing to increased accuracy and quality of the finish-machined part.
Machine control is provided by the Mazatrol 640T CNC system.
The conversational format of the Mazatrol control reduces programming time and results in the first-off component being delivered ahead of comparable ISO-based systems.
Other machines in the Quick Turn Nexus series include the entry level QTN-100, which can be specified as a straightforward two-axis lathe or with the addition of a rotary tool capability and a second turning spindle.
Features include an 11 kW, 6000 rev/min main spindle and, where specified, a 7.5 kW, 6000 rev/min second spindle and a 3.7 kW, 4500 rev/min rotary tool spindle.
This machine also has a maximum bar capacity of 51 mm, while the maximum turning diameter is 280 mm and maximum turning length is 334 mm.
The slightly larger QTN-150 is available only as a two-axis lathe but offers an increased turning capacity in the form of a 330 mm maximum turning diameter and up to 517 mm maximum turning length, dependent on the variant selected.
The QTN-200 not only increases the machining capacity up to 380 mm diameter and 1048 mm maximum length but also introduces the option of adding a Y axis to complement the milling and second spindle capabilities.
The Y axis is a rigid, double axis unit capable of withstanding cutting forces created by heavy-duty milling and turning operations.
All versions of the QTN-200 feature a 26 kW, 5000 rev/min main turning spindle with integral spindle motor unit.
Increasing the machining capacity even further is the QTN-250 series of machines.
Again, users are offered a wide variety of options, from standard two-axis lathes through to the QTN-250MSY turning centre with rotary tools, second spindle and Y axis.
Main spindle power remains at 26 kW but the maximum turning diameter increases to 380 mm.
The QTN-300 completes this round up of the Quick Turn Nexus range.
This powerful, yet agile machine is available with or without driven rotary tools and is capable of machining components measuring 420 mm diameter by 1589 mm long.
As with the other machines in the range that do not have a second spindle, the QTN-300 range is equipped with a NC electric tailstock. Request a free brochure from Yamazaki Mazak UK ...
