High speed HMC with fast tool change is
compact

Compact, high-speed horizontal machining centre has a cam-driven toolchanger, which with its random selection/shortest path and 2.7s chip-to-chip time keeps cycle times as short as possible..

Making its debut at MACH 2006 is the HCN-5000 compact, high-speed horizontal machining centre This latest addition to the Horizontal Centre Nexus range continues the Nexus concept of combining advanced technology, productivity and value

With a 30kW, ISO 40 spindle capable of 18,000 rev/min, the machine is suitable for machining both steel and aluminium workpieces within its 800mm diameter by 1000mm high maximum component envelope.

All of this is contained in the narrowest machine footprint currently available for a machine of this capacity.

The overall floorspace requirement is just 2330mm wide by 5550mm deep with the optional rear discharge swarf conveyor.

Other productivity-enhancing features of the HCN-5000 include the cam-driven toolchanger, which with its random selection/shortest path and 2.7 seconds chip-to-chip time assists in keeping cycle times as short as possible.

Also standard is the twin, rotary pallet system, with each pallet having a load capacity of 700kg and a 7s changeover time.

Manufacturing flexibility is ensured through the inclusion of a 40-position toolchange, with the option of specifying 80 and 120 tool magazines, which can hold tools up to 95mm diameter and 420mm long and weighing up to 12kg when all adjacent pockets are in use.

If adjacent pockets are vacant the maximum tool diameter increases to 150mm.

For ease of maintenance the HCN-5000 benefits from having all of the regular machine maintenance items located in a single, easily accessible, location at the side of the machine.

This particular model is being built in the UK at Yamazaki Mazak's European production facility in Worcester.
