Large display has 22 CNC machine tools

One of the largest exhibition stands at the recent EMO 2007 machine tool show was the Yamazak Mazak Corporation one with 22 CNC machine tools on display.

The Japanese machine tool builder, Yamazaki Mazak Coporation, showed 22 machine tools , including those built in the UK and the USA These included multi-tasking turn-mill types, machining centres and other types, which Manufacturingtalk lists here

More detailed reports are being added progressively to the Web site.

** Multi-tasking machines - Integrex i-150 - with a maximum machining diameter of 585mm, a bar capacity of 65mm, a 5000 rev/min main spindle and a 12,000 rev/min milling spindle, the Integrex i-150 offers efficient multi-tasking of small, complex, components.

* Integrex 200-IV ST - the Integrex 200-IV is a powerful multi-tasking machine tool with incomparable machining flexibility.

The machine on display is equipped with upper and lower turrets that allow balanced cutting to reduce cycle times.

To further enhance productivity the second spindle is of identical specification to the main spindle at 5000 rev/min and 22kW (30HP) rating.

Milling operations are carried out by the 12,000 rev/min,18.5kW (25HP) milling spindle motor.

* Integrex 400-IV S (2500U) - the larger Integrex 400-IV S on display features 2.5m Z-axis travel and a maximum machining diameter of 760mm, making it the ideal machine tool for large, complex, components.

High-efficiency machining is possible thanks to the main spindle (3300 rev/min, 30kW (40HP)) and second spindle (4000 rev/min, 26kW (35HP)).

These are combined with a 12,000 rev/min, 18.5kW (25HP) milling spindle and feed rates of 38m/min (X and Z) and 26m/min (Y).

* Integrex e-RAMTEC V/8 - the addition of RAMTEC technology to the e-tower Integrex machine allows the machining of deep internal features to be carried out efficiently.

The 7.5kW ram spindle has a stroke of 900mm and is mounted on the side of the milling spindle housing, allowing turning and milling processes to be completed using an angle head.

This spindle also has a dedicated 40 position tool magazine.

This ram spindle, said Yamazaki to Manufacturingtalk at the show, is in addition to the standard B-axis spindle with its 10,000 rev/min, 37kW (50HP) motor and the turning table with 500 rev/min 37kW (50HP) capability.

This combination delivers unsurpassed versatility, said the company.

* Integrex e-420H-ST II - with a lower turret equipped with a 60mm Y-axis the versatility of the Integrex e-420H-ST II is considerably expanded and delivers increased capability for new processing applications and cutting tools.

The ability to attach turning tools, tailstock, steady rest attachment or special fixtures opens up numerous machining possibilities for delivering maximum productivity from a single machine tool.

* Integrex e-650H-S II - the powerful Integrex II e-650HS with its 45kW, 1600 rev/min main and second spindles and 37kW milling spindle, combined with a machining envelope of 920mm diameter and up to 4064mm length, is the epitome of 'Done in One' machining for large diameter shaft work.

The unique B-axis provides 240 deg of rotation as well as being able to position itself 30 deg over the centre-line of the main and second spindle.

This ability adds further to the versatility of the Integrex II e-650HS.

** CNC turning centres - Hyper Quadrex 150MSY - the Hyper Quadrex 150MSY turning centre has been developed to provide a high-productivity solution to the machining of high-value added components.

Equipped with a lower turret, powerful second spindle and rotary tool capability and Y-axis on both turrets, the machine expands the typical working envelope of machines in this class.

* Quick Turn Nexus 250-II MY - the Quick Turn Nexus range combines advanced technology, productivity and value for money in a single machine tool package.

In the case of the Quick Turn Nexus 250-II MY it is a machine with a maximum turning diameter of 380mm and a turning length of 504 mm.

Rotary tools can be mounted in all 12 positions on the turret, which also benefits from a 100mm Y-axis travel.

With a spindle rated at 26kW (35HP) and rotary spindle of 5.5kW (7.5HP), Yamazaki Mazak told Manufacturingtalk that this machine is also a powerful and rigid metal removing platform.

* Quick Turn Nexus 350-II MY - the larger Quick Turn Nexus 350-II MY features a 150mm Y-axis travel (+/-75mm) and the machining envelope expands to a maximum turning diameter of 420mm and a maximum turning length of up to 1538mm, depending on machine configuration.

As with all the machines in the Quick Turn Nexus range, it benefits from the use of the Mazatrol Matrix control and the associated 'Intelligent' functions.

* Quick Turn Nexus 450-II M (3000U) - the Quick Turn Nexus 450-II M (3000U) is the latest and largest addition to the Nexus lathe range.

The machine has a maximum work piece swing of 845mm and maximum machining diameter of 580mm.

The model shown at EMO 2007 can accommodate components of up to 3000mm between centres.

The powerful 30kW (40HP) spindle is of the integrated motor design and has a maximum speed of 2000 rev/min.

Productivity is enhanced by rapid traverse speeds of 30m/min, an electric tailstock and a milling spindle capability of 7.5kW with a speed of 4000 rev/min.

Performance is optimised using the advanced features of Mazatrol Matrix control system, which is fitted as standard.

* Cybertech Turn 5500T - Yamazaki Mazak said that his powerful lathe is equipped with an upper and lower turret, and when combined with the powerful main spindle (2400 rev/min, 37kW (50HP)) with 3200Nm (2360ft/lb) maximum torque delivers high productivity when machining large components.

Complementing the standard specification is a wide variety of options, such as the automatic long boring bar stocker and advanced threading software, which are especially effective for oil industry components and other industry applications involving long, large diameter, workpieces.

** Multiple surface/5-axis controlled vertical machining centres - Variaxis 630-5X II T - the range of Variaxis multiple surface, simultaneous 5-axis controlled machining centres adds a new dimension to the versatility and capability of the vertical machining centre, said Yamazaki Mazak to manufacturingtalk.

In the case of the Variaxis 630-5X II T another dimension is added, that of a turning capability with a trunnion table equipped with a direct drive rotary unit capable of 1100 rev/min.

When combined with the standard 30kW (40HP) main spindle, this turning capability has produced a machine that is ideally suited to a wide range of applications.

* Variaxis 630-5X II - equipped with a more powerful 35kW (47HP) 18,000 rev/min spindle, the Variaxis 630-5X II is ideal for maching components such as impellers in a single machine set-up.

With axis travels of 630mm (X), 765mm (Y) and 510mm (Z) the machining envelope enables the most complex of components to be positioned for multiple face machining operations, when combined with the -120 deg to +30 deg A-axis and 360 deg C-axis.

* Variaxis 730-5X II - the largest of the Variaxis range the Variaxis 730-5X II has axis travels of 730mm (X), 850mm (Y) and 560mm (Z).

These are combined with the -120 deg to +30 deg A-axis and 360 deg C-axis.

A standard 10,000 rev/min, 30kW (40HP) spindle is married to a tool storage capacity of up to 120 tools to provide a large capacity yet highly versatile machine tool.

** Five-axis controlled vertical machining centres - Vortex 1400/160-II - the 5-axis high-efficiency capabilities of the Vortex-1400/160 II vertical machining centre make it an ideal machine for large aerospace components and mould tools, said Yamazaki Mazak to Manufacturingtalk.

The 37kW, 10,000 rev/min, 50 taper integral motor spindle guarantees exceptional performance when machining non-ferrous material at high speed.

The 5-axis capability is provided by a unique tilting head , which while being highly rigid has a rotary speed of 3600 deg/min, and +/-30 deg of rotary and tilting movement on the A- and B-axis, making it much more productive than a comparable 3-axis machine.

* VTC-800/30SR - the highly versatile new VTC-800/30SR vertical machining centre (VMC) has been designed to produce a wide variety of components and so meet the flexible demands of today's manufacturing environment.

This addition to the successful VTC range of machining centres has a large 3m X-axis and an additional B-axis provided by a swivel head.

The swivel head helps reduce set-up time and increases the multipurpose nature of the machine.

The machine was displayed at EMO 2007 with an optional rotary table, which allows full simultaneous 5-axis machining of complex features and contours.

The machine can be equipped with a pendulum machining option, which maximises productivity by equally dividing the machine table to allow load/unload when the machine is in operation.

Feed rates of 50m/min and a powerful 35kW spindle with a maximum speed of 18,000 rev/min further add to the performance of this highly productive and versatile machine tool.

* Vertical Centre Nexus 510C-II 5X - the Vertical Centre Nexus 510C-II 5X VMC is testament to Mazak's commitment to 5-axis machining at an affordable price.

The VCN 510C-II 5X benefits from the inclusion of a 205mm diameter 2-axis trunnion table that provides a simultaneous 5-axis machining capability.

* Vertical Centre Nexus 700D-II - the development of the Vertical Centre Nexus 700D-II was in response to market demand for Yamazaki Mazak to produce a larger Nexus VMC incorporating a 50 taper spindle.

A key feature of the machine is its 8000 rev/min, 30kW (40HP) integral spindle/motor, which has a torque of 302Nm.

The use of linear roller guides on all axes results in extremely high rigidity and the use of the 'Intelligent Thermal Shield' and ball screw core cooling provides improved machine accuracy.

** Horizontal machining centres - Horizontal Centre Nexus 4000-II - Yamazaki Mazak's Horizontal Centre Nexus range uses the same core values of advanced technology, productivity and value as the Vertical Centre Nexus range.

In doing so, these machines provide improved machining stability, safer operation and enhanced ease of use, Yamazaki Mazak said to manufacturingtalk at EMO 2007.

The Horizontal Centre Nexus 4000-II has a 400 x 400mm pallet size and axis travels of 560mm (X), 630mm (Y) and 640mm (Z), with 60m/min rapid traverse in all axes.

Performance is enhanced by an 18,000 rev/min, 30kW (40HP) spindle and up to 120-position automatic tool storage capacity.

* Horizontal Centre Nexus 5000-II with integrated Palletech High Rise System - Yamazaki Mazak has a long-established reputation for the use of automation in conjunction with its machine tools, the latest example being the Palletech High Rise System.

This can combine machines with different size pallets into a single Palletech system.

This facility delivers the opportunity to expand systems as and when production demands it with a machine tool most suited to that increase in demand.

At EMO 2007, Yamazaki showed the system to manufacturingtalk as a system featuring Horizontal Centre Nexus 4000-II + 5000-II machines linked by a two-level pallet stocker, allowing different size pallets to be stored together, and a single load/unload station that is equipped to handle both sizes of pallets.

* Horizontal Centre Nexus 8800-II - this machine has been developed to provide a much larger machining platform, combined with levels of accuracy at twice the ISO standard - thanks to the use of high accuracy ball screws and linear roller guides on all axes.

The Horizontal Centre Nexus 8800-II is equipped with an 8000 rev/min, 37kW (50HP) spindle with 1210Nm of torque (option).

** Laser processing machine - Hyper Turbo-X 510 - while retaining many of the features of its predecessor, such as unsurpassed ease of operation; laser cutting different materials/thickness in a single set-up; and high accuracy cutting; the Hyper Turbo-X 510 builds on this with the addition of hybrid linear motor drives that ensure even higher accuracy and speed.

As with its metalcutting counterparts, the Hyper Turbo-X 510 also makes use of Yamazaki Mazak's Intelligent functions to deliver high quality components and high productivity even with inexperienced operators.
