Yamazaki Mazak UK won the MWP award for Best Metal Cutting Machine Tool (Prismatic) for the Horizontal Centre Nexus 8800-II during the UK's recent MACH 2008 machine tool show.

Yamazaki Mazak UK and one of its customers, Components Worldwide, won awards in the recent Metalworking Production (MWP) ceremony during the recent UK MACH 2008 machine tool exhibition both came away from MACH 2008 with success in the MWP Awards

Mazak won the MWP award for Best Metal Cutting Machine Tool (Prismatic) for the Horizontal Centre Nexus 8800-II machining centre.

Components Worldwide took the title of Best Subcontractor - Supply Chain Partnerships.

The MWP judges described the Horizontal Centre Nexus 8800-II as: 'A compact machine with big potential.

Powerful, fast and accurate; very well thought out - a machine tool of its time'.

The machine tool combines a mix of innovative technology, such as the roller gear cam mechanism on the C-axis.

"The MWP Awards provide a valuable insight into the latest developments in manufacturing technology, for that reason alone Mazak takes its participation in them very seriously," said Yamazaki Mazak UK's sales director, Tony Saunders.

"Therefore, we are proud to have been singled out as the winner in an area that, for us, is one of great significance - prismatic machining".

For Components Worldwide (the new trading name for Mini Gears) the award of Best Subcontractor - Supply Chain Partnerships was appreciated as a reward for the efforts of the Stockport, UK-based precision subcontractor.

The judges regarded the business as 'Transformed from a specialist gear manufacturer only to a company now offering a full range of machining capability and components sourced worldwide - maintaining high quality but at low prices'.

Chairman of Components Worldwide, Paul Darwent, said: "I see this award as deserved recognition for a lot of hard work on the part of the forward looking team here at Components Worldwide.

Their continued commitment has enabled us to meet the needs of all of our customers.

By focusing on the bigger picture objectively we have found a successful way to steer our business through the challenges posed by global competition and we have a very bright future ahead of us".

The Components Worldwide branding is a marketing strategy which targets export customers.

The change also reflects a change from being a traditional small size gear manufacturing business.

Gear manufacture now represents just 2% of the company's turnover.

Components Worldwide has invested in a number of machine tools, including three Mazak Integrex multi-axis, multi-function machines.

Components Worldwide said that Mazak machines have added versatility to its manufacturing capacity. Request free introductory details about products from Yamazaki Mazak UK ...
