Launched in 2000, TIG now has 5 million users and receives an average of 1.5 million hits per day.
Zeus Technology began supporting TIG in 2004, when growing member numbers and website traffic began stretching the capacity of the existing web infrastructure.

TIG required a flexible, manageable application traffic management solution in order to scale up its services and allow room for future growth.
By deploying Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager (ZXTM) and Zeus Web Server (ZWS), TIG was able to manage incoming application traffic more effectively, allowing the creation of a more flexible and intelligent application cluster.
The software also allowed TIG to protect against potentially malicious user activity by limiting the number of requests any unique IP address could make.
Over the past 18 months, TIG has experienced further growth, with geographic expansion and surging membership pushing website traffic up by 300 percent.
In order to cope with this additional demand, and plan for future growth, Zeus has provided TIG with additional web server and load balancing software.
The web-based interface means that TIG can easily deploy and configure new sites regardless of their location, and the simple interface means the solution does not require a high level of technical proficiency.
"Zeus has allowed us to dramatically improve the performance and reliability of the TakingITGlobal website, effectively managing three times as much traffic without any extra burden," said Michael Furdyk, Director of Technology at TakingITGlobal.
"The ability to effectively anticipate and manage website and application performance, track usage, and allocate traffic in real-time has removed so many of the headaches we used to have.
"Many of our members access the site from developing countries where Internet connections are often very slow and unreliable, so they really appreciate the fact that we can deliver much faster loading times," he said.
In addition to web traffic management and load balancing, TIG will also use the Zeus solution to better manage search engine trawls.
With over 250,000 pages of content, and 3.1 million unique sites - one for every city in the world - page requests from search engine spiders can significantly impact TIG's website's performance, slowing down page loading speeds for others accessing the site.
Using Zeus, TIG can now allocate appropriate resources to manage search engine trawls while ensuring website performance is not affected.
"TakingITGlobal makes a real difference in the lives of young people, encouraging them to think, learn and get involved with the issues that affect their local and global communities," said Paul Di Leo, CEO of Zeus Technology.
"Zeus is proud to be able to support the organisation and help it plan for future growth by providing technology that enables it delivers a better experience to its members.
Zeus is committed to helping worthy causes such as TakingITGlobal by providing software-based pro bono support".
